Meet the Doctor
Dr. Taggart was raised in Omaha from a young age. Her parents were transplants from California. Dr. Taggart has two sisters residing in the Omaha area. Dr. Taggart led a very active childhood in Millard which has continued into her professional life.
Dr. Taggart received her Bachelor’s degree from Creighton University in Chemistry and Spanish. An undergraduate mission trip to the Dominican Republic developed Dr. Taggart’s desire to assist underserved people especially children. She attended dental school at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center College Of Dentistry.
In dental school, Dr. Taggart continued her goodwill by travelling to Honduras on six different occasions to serve in two different dental clinics for children. In 2002, Dr. Taggart graduated and moved back to Omaha to practice as an associate dentist. Starting in 2005, Dr. Taggart began teaching one half day per week at Creighton University School of Dentistry. In 2007, Dr. Taggart worked one day a week at the Omaha Indian Reservation in Macy, Nebraska.
In 2003, Dr. Taggart became Dr. Taggart-Burns marrying Bret Burns, a police officer. They reside in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dr. Taggart has two young children, Ethan and Meredith, who have become the highlight of her stories in the office!
Throughout Dr. Taggart-Burns’ career she has dedicated many hours to volunteering and organized dentistry. She has held the position of Vice President of the American Student Dental Association, Secretary of the Nebraska Dental Association, Member of the Membership Committee for the Academy of General Dentistry, Member of Strategic Planning for the Academy of General Dentistry, Board member of the Omaha District Dental Society, Board member and Membership Chair of the Nebraska Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Taggart-Burns has received awards for her commitment to dentistry, Most Improved Newsletter in 2007 for the Academy of General Dentistry and Outstanding Young Professional for 2006 from the Nebraska Dental Association. Dr. Taggart- Burns was also inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2010. She currently holds the Editor position for the Nebraska Academy of General Dentistry.
Continuing education is a top priority for Dr. Taggart-Burns. She has received the designation of Fellowship for the Academy of General Dentistry in 2008. She is currently working on her Mastership for the Academy of General Dentistry which she plans to complete in 2013.
When Dr. Taggart does have some free time she participates in half-marathons. She enjoys reading, attending her children’s activities and spending time with family.
